    Silver Lake Water & Sewer District has an opening for a GIS Technician position.

    This full-time position is responsible for entering, collecting, coordinating, updating and maintaining data within the District’s Enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS). This position researches and interprets engineering construction plans, plats, legal descriptions, and other source documents to ensure the data within the GIS accurately represents their real-world counterparts. This classification will also investigate infrastructure in the field, and collect locations using GNSS receivers and other means. This classification will also create both hard copy and computerized interactive maps for District use and provide end users general technical support. The GIS Technician is also responsible for assisting with tasks related to the District’s Enterprise Asset Management System (EAM).

     

    Salary range: $99,964 – $124,360 DOE

    Salary range: $81,972.00 - $106,558.40 Annually plus comprehensive benefits package

    SPU GIS Utility Internship

    Position Description

    Seattle Public Utilities' (SPU) Geographic Information System (GIS) Data Maintenance Unit is looking for two (2) undergraduate level Utility GIS interns. The GIS Data Maintenance Unit is responsible for maintaining GIS data layers related to drainage and wastewater and drinking water. These GIS data layers are fundamental to many of the day-to-day business activities carried out by SPU and other City departments. Additionally, the work unit provides GIS support to field crews, customer service representatives, planners, engineers, inspectors, and other City employees. The selected interns will participate in a variety of activities involved in the upkeep of GIS data. 

    Job Responsibilities

    The intern will work with GIS professionals in activities such as:

    • Assist with creating and/or updating GIS data.
    • Assist with the management and interpretation of various source materials such as maps, engineering drawings, and hand-drawn sketches.
    • Practice research utilization with different methods and GIS source materials.
    • Perform data analysis, produce cartographic products, and help create digital datasets.
    • Be a part of unit staff meetings and/or departmental business meetings.
