The salary range for this position is $5,959.00-$7,926.00 monthly.

Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for an Asset Management Specialist 2 to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative team. The successful candidate will have the ability to create and manage GIS data, use maintenance history data to produce reports for management level staff, and work directly with field staff to create and configure solutions to meet their day-to-day needs. The selected candidate will facilitate implementation of the Public Works Asset Management Program for multiple operating and engineering divisions.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:  

• Organize, analyze, and interpret GIS data
• Perform complex Geographic Information System (GIS) and tabular calculations 
• Create print maps, web maps, and dashboards to user specifications
• Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and data visualization products
• Make recommendations to decision makers to support capital and maintenance planning 
• Work directly with operations teams to provide technical expertise and guidance on policies, procedures, requirements, and methods related to asset management 
• Assist and train operational staff in using the Asset Management Information System (AMIS)
• QA/QC of GIS and tabular data related to infrastructure assets and resources for all Public Works divisions
• Configure the AMIS and GIS in alignment with established standards
• Work across departments and divisions to achieve Asset Management goals

Job  Description:

We are looking for an experienced and strategic  GIS Specialist / Geologist to lead our spatial data and geological mapping initiatives. 

As the Task Lead, you will serve as the single point of accountability to the Project Chief and function as the primary Technical Liaison. You will define work schedules (in accordance with SOW 8), lead advanced spatial modeling and geodatabase design, conduct rigorous technical reviews, and act as the first line of escalation for technical, equipment, or data issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Scheduling & Planning: Establish, manage, and agree upon comprehensive work schedules in strict accordance with Statement of Work (SOW 8) guidelines.

• Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance: Perform final technical reviews on all processed datasets and maps, ensuring absolute compliance with project protocols and scientific rigor.

• Reporting & Compliance: Prepare, finalize, and deliver formal monthly progress reports and quarterly In-Progress Reviews (IPRs) for leadership.

• Issue Resolution: Act as the first escalation point to troubleshoot and resolve any critical equipment, software, or data integrity problems.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Geology, GIS, Geosciences, Remote Sensing, or a closely related field.

• Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in GIS and geological mapping, with a proven track record in a supervisory, team lead, or senior technical capacity.

• Technical Skills:

  • Expert-level proficiency with advanced GIS platforms (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, QGIS, or similar).

  • Deep expertise in complex spatial modeling, terrain analysis, and advanced geodatabase architecture.

  • Strong familiarity with federal data standards, including FGDC metadata protocols.

  • Experience overseeing publication-ready cartographic outputs.

• Leadership Competencies: Proven ability to manage project timelines, deliver executive-level technical reports, and effectively liaise between technical staff and senior leadership.
